Lesson 1.4: Creating Sub-Questions

Based on your background research you now need to start creating sub questions that relate to your research question.

These sub-questions are smaller and more easily answed. They should help you answer your research question and they will help you determine what type of data you will need to collect.

For Example:

Research Question:

Is there a relationship between school uniforms and student achievement?

Sub-Questions:

- What types of grades students receive in non-uniform schools?

- What types of grades students receive in uniform schools?

- What colleges do students in non-uniform schools attend?

- What colleges do students in uniform schools attend?

- How well do students from non-uniform schools score on the SAT?

- How well do students from uniform schools score on the SAT?

- Do these factors change if your are male or female?

- Do these factors change with age?

- Do these factors change depending upon how strict the uniform policy is?

Data to be Collected:

- Grades (uniform and non-uniform)
