Types of Data:
Categorical: (qualitative) Data that describes or is a quality. Responses are usually categories or one word answers.
Examples:
- Super power
- Pets
- Gender
- State
- Zipcode
Numerical: (quantitative) Data that can be measured or quantified. Responses are usually numbers.
Examples:
- Shoe size
- Age
- Height
- Hours of sleep
Organizing Categorical Data:
To organize categorical data we often use Frequency Tables like the one below.

The shaded cells are called marginal frequencies. They are located around the "margins" of the table and represent the totals of the rows or columns.
The non-shaded cells within the table are called joint frequencies. Each joint cell is the frequency count of response from both types of categorical data.
