Lesson 1.16: Organizing and Analyzing Data

We have learned many different ways to organize and anylyze our data throughout this unit. Please use the following videos and online tools to help you create beautiful publishable graphs and analyze your data more efficiently.

Dot Plots:

Below is a video on how to use Excel to create dot plots and find measures of center.

Box Plots:

Creating a box plot in Excel is beyond annoying. Please feel free to use the following online tools and then take a screen shot of your box plot (shift, command, 4).

Box Plot Generator - Makes very pretty box plots, but you need the 5 number summary.

Another Box Plot Generator - Makes a vertical box plot, so you may want to turn it around after you make it.

You can use Excel to help you calculate the five data points you need to create a box plot.

You already know how to find median. To find the quartiles you will do a similar process. In a blank cell type "=quartile(" then highlight the data you want it to use to calculate the quartile. Type ",1" for Q1 and ",3" for Q3. The numbers should pop right up!

Scatter Plot:

Use the video below to create a scatter plot of your data and to calculate the line of best fit. You may also use the same process to create a Residual Plot.

Residual Plots:

Use this video to help you find the residuals and to create a residual plot of the data. This should help you determine if the data is linear or non-linear.
